What kind of cuisine is served at The Grill Room?

The Grill Room at The Windsor Court serves Modern American cuisine with a distinct New Orleans flair. The current dinner menu pays homage to the restaurant’s golden era, when The Grill Room defined a generation of New Orleans fine dining. Revived signatures like tempura frog legs with champagne mustard sauce and Chinese lacquered duck with a coffee-mandarin glaze share the menu with Gulf seafood, dry-aged steaks from the grill, caviar service, and Creole classics reimagined with modern restraint. Dine à la carte or through the four-course tasting menu; either way, expect refinement and history you can taste.

Is The Grill Room a must-visit fine dining restaurant in New Orleans?

We may be biased, but yes, and the evidence agrees. For guests of The Windsor Court, The Grill Room is the rare hotel restaurant worth staying in for: a golden-era menu, live music, and one of the city’s most beautiful dining rooms, all an elevator ride away. For everyone else, it earns the trip on its own merits: dinner surrounded by hand-painted murals and museum-quality art, a menu reviving the golden-era dishes that made its reputation, jazz brunch on the weekends, and complimentary valet parking, a genuine rarity in downtown New Orleans.

What is the atmosphere like at The Grill Room?

Elegant, warm, and quietly theatrical. The Grill Room glows, the linen is crisp, and the service is discreet. The dining room is lined with works from The Windsor Court’s museum-quality collection, including three grand hand-painted murals by New Orleans artist Auseklis Ozols depicting the city at the turn of the century; look closely and you’ll find Louis Armstrong and Tennessee Williams among the painted guests. Bay windows overlooking the courtyard, and live music wafting in from The Polo Club complete a room that feels both grand and unhurried. It is fine dining without the hush: refined enough for a milestone and relaxed enough for a Wednesday.

Does The Grill Room have a dress code?

The Grill Room’s dress code is casual elegant, and we hold the casual as sincerely as the elegant. Most guests dress for the occasion because the room invites it, but our atmosphere never demands fancy clothing. Come as the evening moves you: jacket or no jacket, ballgown or very good jeans. What matters to us is that you’re comfortable enough to stay for a while. Athletic wear and beachwear are the two things best left outside the dining room.

Is The Grill Room a good choice for a special occasion?

Yes, and it is one of our quiet specialties. Anniversaries, proposals, birthdays, and long-overdue reunions are nightly occurrences at The Grill Room, and our team delights in the details: a window table overlooking the courtyard, a surprise at dessert, a word to the pianist. For the most intimate celebrations, reserve the Jewel Box Room, our private dining room. Beneath its recessed mirrored ceiling and crystal chandelier, surrounded by a hand-painted panoramic mural, a dinner becomes an heirloom. It is a single, one-of-a-kind space; book it well in advance, and let us know what you’re celebrating so we can tailor your experience.

What are The Grill Room’s hours?

The Grill Room at The Windsor Court serves breakfast Monday through Friday from 7 to 10:30 AM, lunch Monday through Friday from 11:30 AM to 2 PM, and dinner Wednesday through Sunday from 5:30 to 10 PM. On weekends, mornings belong to Jazz Brunch, served Saturday and Sunday from 7 AM to 2 PM. Reservations are recommended, and if you’re a wine lover, ask about Wine Wednesday at dinner.

Can non-hotel guests dine at The Grill Room?

Absolutely, The Grill Room welcomes hotel guests and outside diners alike, at every service, and locals are some of our most devoted regulars. Come for the $28 Plate Lunch on a weekday, Jazz Brunch on the weekend, or the golden-era dinner menu any Wednesday through Sunday. Valet parking is complimentary for Grill Room diners, a rarity in the heart of New Orleans. A table here has never required a room key.

Does The Grill Room have a Jazz Brunch?

Yes, Jazz Brunch at The Grill Room is served every Saturday and Sunday from 7 AM to 2 PM, with live jazz filling one of the most beautiful dining rooms in New Orleans. The soundtrack comes courtesy of the Christopher Kohl Trio, performing from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The menu starts the morning properly: caviar service, oysters on the half shell, crab beignets with local honey, then ranges from truffle soft-scrambled eggs and steak & eggs to chicken and waffles with hot honey, with New Orleans beignets dusted generously in powdered sugar for the table. Pair it with a mimosa, a Bloody Mary, or that most New Orleans of brunch traditions, a brandy milk punch. Brunch in this city is a ritual; brunch beneath hand-painted murals is a Windsor Court one. Reservations are strongly recommended.

Does The Grill Room allow pets?

Pets are not permitted in The Grill Room, though service animals are always welcome. That said, The Windsor Court is a pet-friendly hotel, so your four-legged companion is warmly welcomed elsewhere on property.

Can The Grill Room accommodate allergies and dietary restrictions?

With a little advance notice, our kitchen can accommodate nearly any allergy or dietary need, from vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free to specific food allergies. The one thing beyond our kitchen is certified kosher preparation, which we are not able to provide. Do let us know when you reserve, and we will happily take care of the rest.
