The Royal Family - Helen Hester
Years of Service: 14 years
As hostess for The Grill Room and Le Salon, Helen Hester is one of the friendly, memorable faces of Windsor Court that guests enjoy seeing time and again. Helen recognizes regular guests by name and anticipates their preferences, making people feel welcome and more like family.
Helen began working in reservations at Windsor Court in 2000 and went on to work in a few positions in guest services before finding her home as hostess in 2006. Now, Helen greets guests for breakfast and lunch in The Grill Room, takes reservations and serves as hostess and support staff for tea service in Le Salon. Helen enjoys her hostess position because she loves working with the public and taking care of people.
Her supervisors will tell you that she is the rock of the first shift of the day. Guests appreciate Helen’s positive attitude and superior service. She has been recognized in guest comments for being “friendly, professional and very helpful” and “exceptionally gracious.”
It may come as no surprise that Helen is a former actress, with her warm, outgoing personality and great sense of humor. Helen is also an avid pet lover and has three dogs and three cats in her animal family. She regularly supports the SPCA and local shelters and serves as a foster parent for animals looking for permanent homes.
Favorite Windsor Court Moment
Helen fondly remembers the time not long after Hurricane Katrina when visitors were just beginning to return to New Orleans. When guests would ask about the city’s recovery, she jumped at the chance to be a spokeswoman, assuring them it would only be a matter of time before the city was better than ever.
Originally from the Northeast, Helen visited New Orleans after learning about distant family heritage here, and the city convinced her to stay. Today, Helen loves seeing fellow transplants, former college students or visitors who come to New Orleans and never leave.
