The Royal Family - Nu Oanh Nguyen

Nu Oanh Nguyen

Position:  Uniform Attendant

Years of Service:  14+ years

Lovingly known as “Ms. Oanh” by members of the Windsor Court family, Nu Oanh Nguyen has spent nearly 15 years working in the hotel’s laundry department. Laundering, tailoring and tracking the hotel’s staff uniforms, Oanh is one of the first people new hires meet, and a go-to resource for her colleagues.

With more than 35 years in the hotel industry, it’s no surprise that she is highly regarded as a leader on her team. Her kind, considerate nature, and willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty, make her an invaluable asset. Her expertise as a seamstress came in handy one day when a bride staying at the hotel was forced to order a new dress the day before her wedding. Oanh put the panicked bride at ease and was able to fit and alter the dress in time for the ceremony the next day.

Oanh will tell you she “loves Windsor Court!” In addition to taking pride in her work and admiring her colleagues, Oanh also loves the hotel’s proximity to some of New Orleans’ major attractions, including the Riverwalk and French Quarter. And whenever family visits from out of town, Windsor Court is always the first stop on Oanh’s tour of the local sites.

Originally from Vietnam, Oanh and her husband of 32 years have established a home in New Orleans for themselves, their daughter and two sons. A firm believer in hard work, she has always tried to instill that same sense of conscientiousness in her children. Her pride in her children shows, as she’ll readily brag about their accomplishments.

Favorite Windsor Court Moment

It’s no secret that Oanh values hard work and determination, and her favorite moment at Windsor Court is an added testament to that mentality. After Hurricane Katrina devastated the city and the local workforce in 2005, Oanh’s strong work ethic was called upon at a time when the hotel needed her most.

The sole employee in the laundry department for almost three months, Oanh worked from 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., laundering uniforms and clothes for guests and employees. That rigorous workload typically would have been divided among six or seven employees. Oanh prides herself on the fact that she was able to not only tackle the challenge, but excel and continue to provide the high quality of service synonymous with the Windsor Court name.
