Insider's Look at Upcoming New Orleans Attractions - Crescent City Culture

Crescent City Culture: Tales of the Cocktail, Celebrating Satchmo and White Linen Night

Thanks to New Orleans’ unique blend of arts, food and music, there’s no shortage of things to do during the steamy summers. From an event devoted to the art of the cocktail to a stylish stroll through the heart of the city’s arts district to a festival celebrating New Orleans’ most famous native son, the best way to learn more is to experience the Crescent City first-hand.

New Orleans is calling all cocktail connoisseurs this summer during Tales of the Cocktail, a weeklong festival scheduled July 13-20 that unites elite professionals in mixology for cocktails, cuisine and culture. Windsor Court is once again joining in the festivities, hosting a Prohibition Tea in partnership with Old New Orleans Rum on July 18. The event features Cuban-inspired cocktails served Prohibition style—in tea cups, with a menu of light fare including brunch-inspired tea sandwiches, scones and desserts.

Windsor Court has also partnered with Stolichnaya Elit to offer a special prix-fixe tasting menu in The Grill Room as part of Tales of the Cocktail Restaurant Week. On July 14, Kent Westmoreland, head mixologist at Windsor Court’s Cocktail Bar, will partner with celebrity guest bartender and host of The Proper Pour Charlotte Voisey of William Grant and Sons to serve special cocktails inspired by classic noir films and fiction.

Music lovers visiting the birthplace of jazz this summer can celebrate with a tribute to the legendary New Orleans musician Louis Armstrong during the 15th annual Satchmo SummerFest, slated for July 30- August 2. Heralded by frequent visitors as the highlight of the summer, the event features live music, world-class New Orleans cuisine, and a Satchmo-themed art contest. The festival takes place on the grounds of the Old U.S. Mint, conveniently situated on the edge of the French Quarter between the French Market and Esplanade Avenue.

The festival isn’t the only place to see great performances this summer, and Windsor Court guests can stop by Cocktail Bar or the Polo Club Lounge to catch a glimpse of the impressive live music lineup, headlined by Robin Barnes, while sipping classic cocktails and enjoying a savory or sweet selection from the menu of snacks, small plates and desserts.

New Orleans’ reputation for culture isn’t just limited to its culinary creations and immense music variety. On August 1, make sure to visit Whitney White Linen Night, an occasion to don your best white ensemble while leisurely strolling through galleries, sipping cocktails and sampling world-class cuisine in New Orleans’ Warehouse Arts District. The outdoor celebration includes stages and live entertainment provided by some of New Orleans’ most eclectic and talented musicians. The official after-party at the Contemporary Arts Center is a summertime must for locals and visitors alike.
