Insider's Look at Upcoming New Orleans Attractions - Summer 2015
Big Easy Summer Soirees: From Girlfriend Getaways to Father’s Day Fêtes
As the long stretch of summer approaches, the sultry season continues to offer abundant options for festive times in the Big Easy. Whether it’s attending a girlfriend retreat that gives back, visiting a tomato-filled food frenzy in the French Quarter, or celebrating dad with a Father’s Day whiskey flight at Polo Club Lounge, the Windsor Court Hotel is the ideal retreat for anyone looking to get away.
Created by women for women, FestiGals is a weekend dedicated to connecting, empowering and inspiring women. Slated for June 11-14, most of the celebration takes place in downtown New Orleans, just steps away from Windsor Court. The getaway, which boasts a range of activities from haute cuisine dinners to empowerment seminars, also includes plenty of personal time. FestiGals visitors staying at Windsor Court can take advantage of the hotel’s many amenities, from the lush 65-foot saltwater, rooftop pool and deck to the hotel’s premier fitness center to the full service Spa.
Another great draw for a weekend excursion is the annual French Market Creole Tomato Festival, June 13-14. The free event takes place in the heart of the French Quarter and is perfect for the entire family. Marking the arrival of Creole tomato dishes on local restaurant menus, the festival is a celebration of the Pelican State's unique cultural and cuisine offerings, of which the Creole tomato is emblematic. Activities include live music, cooking demonstrations, misting stations, signature creole tomato dishes for sale and a celebratory parade.
When sun sets on the festival at 7 p.m., stop by The Grill Room at Windsor Court, where Chef de Cuisine Daniel Causgrove incorporates locally sourced ingredients, like the Creole Tomato, into his contemporary, Southern fine dining menu.
Finally, Father’s Day is just around the corner on June 21, so don’t forget to celebrate dad this summer by stopping by Polo Club Lounge at Windsor Court. Reminiscent of the private clubs of England with its rich furnishings and dark woods, the lounge sets the stage for guests to kick back and relax with an Orphan Barrel Whiskey Flight, featuring three, one-ounce selections of rare, delicious Tennessee whiskey. Named one of New Orleans’ best hotel bars by Travel + Leisure, The Polo Club Lounge also provides an extensive menu of small plate selections, from the mouth-watering Windsor Court burger or blue crab gratin to an assortment of decadent caviar served with traditional accoutrements.
